From the Las Cruces Sun-News “Miss Las Cruces faces DWI charge after wreck causes power outage“.
The woman recently named Miss Las Cruces has been charged with aggravated DWI after allegedly hitting a light pole Sunday night, causing a power outage and disrupting traffic through this morning.
Just before 10 p.m., Sarah J. Richardson drove her Chrysler P.T. Cruiser into a light pole near the intersection of Avenida de Mesilla and Hickory Drive, according to a Las Cruces Police Department report. Investigators said the pole landed on a nearby traffic light. Falling wires and debris hit one car, became entangled beneath another car driving on Avenida de Mesilla then snagged a third car, the report said.
A spokeswoman for the local pageant, which is a preliminary for the Miss America competition, confirmed that Richardson, 22, is the 2013 title holder of Miss Las Cruces.
From the Denver Post “Denver police looking for bald, heavy-set serial buttocks-groper“
Police think the same man who fondled a woman’s backside at East Fifth Avenue and High Street on Aug. 21 grabbed another woman’s buttocks a few minutes later a block away on East Fourth Avenue.
Tuesday night, another woman was grabbed on the buttocks at an alley entrance between Newton and Osceola streets along West 37th Avenue.
The groper is described as Hispanic, in his late 20s to early 30s, about 6 feet tall. He also is described as bald and heavy-set.
Every year during the Balloon Fiesta there will no doubt be a balloon crashing into something, usually power-lines. This year there was a spectacular crash when the “Wings of Wind” basket caught fire after running into power lines. One of the two passengers died and the pilot was badly injured. The incident occurred about 3 miles from my house at the intersection of NM 528 and NM 550.
During 2007’s Balloon Fiesta, a woman fell out of a balloon and died later in the hospital.
It seems some years the Balloon Fiesta goes on without a hitch, other years it just kinda ugly. The balloons are always at the whim of the weather and in fall the only thing you can predict is it will be windy.
