Intel Is Spending 6 Billion In Israel, Nothing In New Mexico

There’s been rumor upon rumor that Intel will eventually shut down the Intel site in New Mexico. Its just a rumor but news from Reutes doesn’t help ”
Intel submits plan for nearly $6 bln Israel chip plant upgrade

Chip giant Intel Corp submitted a plan to Israel’s government to invest 20 billion shekels ($5.8 billion) in upgrading its plant in southern Israel, the Economy Ministry said on Monday.

The ministry said it promised Intel it would work to expedite bureaucratic procedures as much as possible to develop and promote employment in the country’s south.

As part of the investment, Intel would receive a government grant that Israeli media estimated at about 1 billion shekels.

The 1 billion shekels (or 289 million dollars) probably helps. Also note that Intel built the a brand new fab 42 factory in Arizona and it’s apparently going to stay empty for the time being.

What's Going On At The Arizona Intel Site?

The Oregonian speculates “Intel activity slows in Arizona amid slack demand“.

The company has slowed the installation of production tools at its nearly complete, $5 billion Fab 42 near Phoenix (a fab is the industry’s term for a chip factory), according to Intel suppliers and contractors in Oregon.

These personnel, who asked not to be identified because of their relationship with Intel, say some tools appear to be idle in Arizona. Other tools have been redirected to the new D1X research fab in Hillsboro, which opens its first, $3 billion phase late this year.

When Intel announced plans to build Fab 42 two years ago, it said the Arizona facility would be complete in 2013. That’s still the timeline, according to corporate spokesman Chuck Mulloy — but he wouldn’t say when the facility will begin making high volumes of chips.

Armed Vigilantes Attack Suspected Illegal Aliens

Arizona continues to keep it classy. From azcentral.com “Two killed in Eloy ambush near smuggling route“.

Around 10:30 p.m., an unknown number of people in camouflage armed with rifles ambushed a pick-up truck filled with a group of suspected illegal immigrants, according to a press release from the Pima County Sheriff’s Department.

Detectives from the Pima County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene near the Ironwood Forest National Monument in southwest Eloy and found one person dead in the truck bed and another body in a nearby wash, the release said

The Confederate Flag Is Pretty, The Mexican Flag Is For Illegals

Janie Maders owner of AJ’s Cycles in Phoenix AZ took down a Confederate Flag when the Arizona Republic asked about it, according to the azcentral article “Phoenix business owner takes down Confederate flag“. She only had it up because she thought it was “pretty”. She had other flags up too like one of Puerto Rico. She’s not Racist.

But she said she wouldn’t put up a Mexican flag. “I wouldn’t want illegals of any nationality coming to my store,” she said.

Two Men To Be Charged With Starting The Wallow Fire

Arizona’s largest fire, at 538,000 acres, was allegedly started by two experienced campers.

The two had been camping near the Bear Wallow Trailhead that day, and David Malboeuf’s car was spotted about 2 miles from where the fire began, according to the complaint. The trailhead is near the confluence of the north and south forks of Bear Wallow Creek. The Malboeufs both told investigators that they built a campfire on the evening of May 28 and again on the morning of May 29 to cook breakfast before leaving on a hike down the canyon.

“They stated that they believed their campfire was out because David threw a candy wrapper in the fire just prior to their departure and it did not melt,” according to court documents.

But when they were returning to their camp site several hours later, the Malbouefs told investigators they could smell and see smoke from the area.

As someone who camps with camp fires, I will be following this closely.

People In Arizona Offended By Middle Eastern Dust Storm Words?

2011 - 07 - 18 - dust storm

According to the NYTimes, some people in Arizona are offended by the term “Haboob” when referring to dust storms. I don’t know if the short NYTimes article is being sensationalist or if there are more than a few people cited in the article that are actually offended.

Not everyone was put out by the use of the term. David Wilson of Goodyear, Ariz., said those who wanted to avoid Arabic terms should steer clear of algebra, zero, pajamas and khaki, as well. “Let’s not become so ‘xenophobic’ that we forget to remember that we are citizens of the world, nor fail to recognize the contributions of all cultures to the richness of our language,” he wrote.
