Goodbye And Fuck You 2015

While a change in the calendar year has no real meaning to the universe, it’s not hard to track one’s life milestones by the change in the year.

2014 was bad after being laid off from Intel. 2015 continued being shitty with poor job prospects and the death of my sister among many of my problems.

I have become a cliche at the age of 40 with major life changing events and being in the situation where I don’t know what to do with myself. I hope next year brings some improvements but honestly I am not very hopeful.

  1. Same here. . . holler or post if you want to gripe. Been raising lots of pigs, chickens (meat and eggs) and veggies but it’s tough to make a living at it small scale due to time for distribution, etc. Ended up taking a job with the state of Oregon in their forestry department, which is close by and relatively convenient. Pay isn’t great, but benefits are incredible. I guess it’s all about the health benefits. 2015 was rough here, as well. Still glad I haven’t had to go back to Intel like so many others. Maybe someday, if I need to “get back in the game” but for now, able to keep going.

    1. Health benefits is a big issue. Obamacare is a step in the right direction but it doesn’t come anywhere near what I had at Intel.

  2. I just stumbled across this site while hearing about yet another round of layoffs in 2016. I too was laid off from Intel just days after qualifying for my second sabbatical. While the following months have been far from ideal and generated a lot of stress in my household it doesn’t being to compare with the loss of a family member.

Hang in there and keep grinding away. If you apply the effort there will be a payoff in the form of a new career.

Looking back on things it was just the kick in the ass I needed as my skills were rotting while working at Intel as the jobs from front line technicians to senior engineers are prescribed. There’s no innovation going on outside of Oregon in any capacity at any level.

Intel is one of thousands of employers. However, they own Rio Rancho and it will devastate the area when they announce they are closing the site which will be within the next 5 years, if not sooner, for sure. (The announcement that is.) Fab11/11x have bungled too many start ups to be given another chance so don’t look for 10nm when F42 is sitting empty in AZ and there is another billion dollar investment going on in Israel. If you’re a homeowner you should consider leaving now unless you can get a government or other stable job or you just love living in Albuquerque. The property values will plummet and it will be like the Detroit of the desert south west.
