Rocket Launching Motorcycle

December 18th, 2009 Greg Smith 1 comment

jairust on YouTube shows himself driving around town launching rockets from his motorcycle.

I made rocket pods for the sides of my ‘06 CBR that shoot homemade rockets with the push of a button. Some of the rockets in the video did not fly very well but I have got the problem under control so watch for another video!! Pay attention to the last two clips they are special!!!

Some may call him a dumb-ass, I think it is kind of cool but pointless. The rockets appear to be standard model rocket engines that when launched go in any random direction. Probably It’s a bad idea to show yourself on YouTube doing dangerous and illegal activities on public roads.

A rig like this would not be hard to make. When I was a kid, I made missiles out of model rocket engines. My design included fins mounted directly on a rocket engine with a nose cone attached to the top of the engine. The nose cone was filled with gun powde, the nose would explode when the ejection charge went off (it helped to remove the clay from the top of the engine). Production costs were too high for a kid so I only made a few, but they launched horizontally and made spectacular explosions.

Iron Man 2 Trailer

December 16th, 2009 Greg Smith 1 comment

The official Iron Man 2 trailer is available on Marvel’s YouTube and Apple’s Trailer’s site.

Apparently, they trailer is so good that they are going to make a movie out of it. It is due to be released 7 May 2010.

Can anyone familiar with the comic books tell me how close these two movies follow them?

Alton Brown On How To Carve A Turkey

November 25th, 2009 Greg Smith No comments

I’m the official turkey cooker and carver this year and therefore interested in Alton Brown’s video on YouTube on how to carve a turkey. His suggestion is to place the turkey on a cutting board, using a towel as traction, and to cut out each of the main parts of the turkey.

Found on Serious Eats.

Elizabeth Lambert Suspended

November 6th, 2009 Greg Smith No comments

New Mexico is in the news with video of a University of New Mexico woman’s soccer player beating the shit out of BYU players. The video of Elizabeth Lambert has been making it’s way across the web and although KOB says all of the video of Elizabeth Lambert has been removed from YouTube, I found a video from the Associated Press which shows some of the incidents.

The Lobo’s website has a profile page up for Elizabeth Lambert which states:

SafariScreenSnapz001.jpg

Born Elizabeth Ann Lambert on December 29, 1988 … enjoys camping and surfing in her spare time … favorite food is tacos … is majoring in University Studies with a focus on Occupational Therapy

There’s a Occupational Therapy joke in there somewhere. What the profile fails to mention is that she was indefinitely suspended from UNM soccer. Although her official statement was that she was sorry (I hope so), I really wonder what her deal is. I hope she tells more about why she was so rough.

Phoenix Qwest Building Imploded

September 29th, 2009 Greg Smith No comments

The boring and uninteresting Qwest building in Phoenix Arizona was imploded on September 27th. The explosion is apparently going to be part of the TLC TV show called “Dynamite Family”.

Although azcentral.com’s story includes a video, I recommend a comercial free version by user teamdroid on Flickr. I’m sure there’s more than a few on YouTube as well.

Tron Legacy: Sequel To Tron Movie Trailer

August 3rd, 2009 Greg Smith No comments

The long awaited Tron sequel will be released in 2010. Tron Legacy is the sequel to the original Tron that came out in 1982. In 1982 no one could have imagined that I would be writing about the sequel to Tron on my Blog.

The press release from Disney says the film will be the same as the original but with some new characters.

Sam Flynn (Garrett Hedlund), the tech-savvy 27-year-old son of Kevin Flynn (Jeff Bridges), looks into his father’s disappearance and finds himself pulled into the same world of fierce programs and gladiatorial games where his father has been living for 25 years. Along with Kevin’s loyal confidant (Olivia Wilde), father and son embark on a life-and-death journey across a visually-stunning cyber universe that has become far more advanced and exceedingly dangerous.

YouTube has made every single copy of Tron Legacy non embedable. Which means I couldn’t use their version on my site. Exactly how that’s supposed to help promote the movie I don’t know. Thanks to TrailerAddict.com for making a embedable version.

President Obama’s Drive To Rio Rancho High School

May 15th, 2009 Greg Smith No comments

>

Here’s some video I shot of President Obama’s drive to Rio Rancho High School on Thursday. It was recorded and uploaded in HD to YouTube.

The first part of the video is the drive down Loma Colorado. I couldn’t drive and film at the same time so set the camera on the dashboard. You can see the camera crews and protesters on the left. The New Mexico Independent says there were about 100 protestors.

The second part of the video shows the presidents cadillac one and the following motorcade driving up Northern Blvd. The Lowes parking lot gave a great vantage point. In retrospect I should have walked down and filmed from the corner of Northern Blvd and Loma Colorado.

For some reason strangers always come up and talk to me and a several people asked me why we were all watching. Many were pissed that they couldn’t drive down Northern Blvd.

baltolover272 has posted a video of Presidnet Obama leaving the high school.

KRQE has Obama’s address on YouTube as well.

Mythbusters Use New Mexico Tech’s Rocket Sled

April 23rd, 2009 Greg Smith No comments

The Mythbusters were testing weather two semi trucks that collide at highway speeds into a car would turn the car into a pancake and fuse the semis trucks together. The were not able to prove either scenarios.

In usual Mythbusters fashion, they have to see what it will take to do what they were testing. To turn a car into a pancake, they went to New Mexico Tech to use their rocket rail to smash the car. There is a video of the results on YouTube.

They also fused sheets of metal together using explosives. If I can find that video I will add it.
