Hello, I’m Martti Roth from Intel Finland. At Intel, we love trying new things. So, when me and my team decided to create the world’s biggest Intel chime, we used five big cannons, five big tubes and five big heroes with helmets on. Yes, I suppose it was a little bit crazy!
AAAGHHHH. I woke up to this a few days ago, a roof tile had blown off in some winds. It wasn’t just this one, a whole bunch of them can be found around the property.
I don’t get it. After I made some repairs last year, they seemed to hold up. In fact it help up through hurricane force winds. I’m glad we just got winds and not rain. This weekend is suppose to be warm, I plan to get up there and make more more roof repairs.
[Update 3/9/07 12:50 PM] replaced the shingles today. I think I have discovered the failure mode. Some of the staples appear to be popping out. Even just a little bit of the staple popping out is enough to lift up the shingle, giving the wind something to grab onto. I inspected all the shingles and found several others that were sticking up. Removed those staples and replaced them with nails.
Intel Corp. said on Monday it will spend $1 billion to $1.5 billion to retool a factory in New Mexico, which will start to make chips with cutting-edge 45-nanometer-wide transistors in the second half of 2008.
The factory to be renovated in Rio Rancho, New Mexico, is known as Fab 11X and will be the fourth Intel plant to use 45-nanometer technology, which includes new materials that boost chip efficiency by cutting leakage of electrical current.
Here’s a picture of my equipment closet. Since I don’t have a utility room and don’t want to put this stuff, mostly Home Automation gear, in garage due to dirt and dust issues. There was enough room in the heater closet to fit all this stuff.
I’ve already been asked, is there a heat problem? Doesn’t seem to be. The heater doesn’t emit that much heat around itself, and since it doesn’t constantly run there’s not any build up from what little bit of heat that is generated. Also, the all the metal here is not interfering with the wireless stuff.
Keep in mind, all this stuff was strung around the house. Mostly in the living room. Since I access the Home Automation computer via VNC I don’t really need direct access to it. It’s nice not having wires all over the place anymore.
MacRumors has finally come up with some “pre release” unofficial screen captures from 10.4, which is suppose to be revealed at next weeks WWDC. Apple is getting good at keeping the lid on such things as this time there has hardly been anything out there on what is going to be in Tiger. You would think they would let out a little bit here and there to keep the hype up. Who knows, maybe this was leaked by Apple.
The new searching features look very well done. It basically darkens the whole screen except thing thing your looking for. Thought the screen shots were from the prefs pane, it will be interesting to see how this works in other parts of the OS (like for files).
Also of interest is this new Dashboard features. I’m not sure exactly what it is but it looks very similar to Konfabulator. Lets see if there’s a big controversy like there was with Sherlock and Watson.

There’s some on the ground now and there could be up to 3″ in parts of Albuquerque. May not seem like a lot to some but it’s a lot for Albuquerque. I’ll post some pictures once there is some light. Meanwhile I have a little bit of a sore throat and a headache. But I can make it through the day.
