Authorities haven't said what they believe the motive might be, but said the two men had never met. Many simply assume the killing was the latest and most extreme backlash against Arizona's photo-enforcement program.

The iPhone On Verizon

April 26th, 2009 Greg Smith No comments

According to USA Today Apple is in negations with Verizon. AT&T’s contract with Apple to carry the iPhone expires in 2010.

The New York-based telecom entered into “high-level” discussions with Apple management a few months ago, when CEO Steve Jobs was overseeing day-to-day business, these sources say. They declined to be named because they aren’t authorized to speak publicly.

People tell me all the time how much they want the iPhone but won’t switch to AT&T because of the superior coverage of Verizon. That Verizon is sucking up to Apple to get the iPhone wouldn’t surprise me.

Before releasing the iPhone, I think Apple looked into starting their own wireless company. Having no idea how successful the iPhone would be and how much a undertaking starting a wireless phone company would be, they decided they needed to focus their efforts onto the hardware and partner with a wireless company. If the iPhone was a hit, they would work on being their own wireless company later.

Apple will eventually want to have control of the wirless network. They will either start their own or buy out AT&T. Why not stick with the world stanardard of wireless phone networks GSM, which AT&T uses and not Verizon.

I don’t think a deal with Verizon and Apple will happen. I also didn’t think Apple would switch to Intel processors.

Thank You Scottevest

January 23rd, 2009 Greg Smith No comments

In 2004 I recived a Scottevest 4.0 jacket. Since then it’s been my jacket of choice for every day use, hikes, skiing and yurt trips. Their have been many times I’ve rubbed against something and swore I put giant hole in it.

For four years I managed not to harm the jacket at all, until last fall when I pulled several teeth out of the main zipper. I used it for a few months like that but it became impossible to zip up and the zipper pull finally fell off and became lost.

I couldn’t afford a new jacket and there’s really nothing wrong with the current one except for the few missing teeth. I contacted Scottevest to see what they would charge to fix it.

I sent a email to Scott Jordan the CEO of Scottevest with a picture of the broken zipper. I then recived a reply from Laura at Scottevest who verified when I order it. She then sent me a pre paid UPS shipping label to ship it back to them for repair. She didn’t ask if I damaged it or ask for payment. She just offered to fix a 4 year old jacket on their dime without question.

I was a big fan of Scottevest before, now I am customer for life.

Palm Foleo Canceled

September 4th, 2007 Greg Smith No comments

I said the Palm Foleo was the death nail for Palm. Apparently Palm management thought so too. They are canceling it. Strait from the CEO himself.

To that end, and after careful deliberation, I have decided to cancel the Foleo mobile companion product in its current configuration and focus all of our energies on delivering our next generation platform and the first smartphones that will bring this platform to market.

Wow. What the helll is going on at Palm?

PC World Editor Quits Over Apple Story

May 2nd, 2007 Greg Smith Comments off

Colleagues at my former outlet, PC World magazine, have told me that Editor-in-Chief Harry McCracken quit abruptly today because the company’s new CEO, Colin Crawford, tried to kill a story about Apple and Steve Jobs. The piece, a whimsical article titled “Ten Things We Hate About Apple,” was still in draft form when Crawford killed it. McCracken said no way and walked after Crawford refused to compromise. Apparently Crawford also told editors that product reviews in the magazine were too critical of vendors, especially ones who advertise in the magazine, and that they had to start being nicer to advertisers.

Justice Arrives

Bernard Ebbers got what was coming to him.
Bernard Ebbers, the former CEO of WorldCom, was found guilty Tuesday for his role in the huge accounting scandal that led to the largest bankruptcy in U.S. history.

A federal jury in New York, on its eighth day of deliberations, convicted Ebbers on all nine counts that he helped mastermind an $11 billion accounting fraud at WorldCom, now known as MCI.

Of course Ebbers says he knew nothing, he was only the CEO after all, how could he know anything that was going on at his company. Next up, lets see how long he gets in federal-pound-me-in-the-ass prison.
