Apple is giving away 20 free holiday (Christmas) related songs on iTunes. The free songs are only available until December 17th.
KOB recently did an interesting article on a group of independent iPhone developers in Albuquerque who work at a coffee shop and call themselves the Cocoa Conspiracy. The group includes Andrew Stone of Stone Design who has a number of both Mac and iPhone applications.
Apparently Stone Design’s Twittelator Pro is doing well. The article also talks about a very cool sounding hot air balloon and chase crew app.
“It can actually overlay the chase group’s position and the balloon’s location and speed over a map live. That way people can plan their routes to get to the balloon and where it’s going to land,”
That’s an awesome idea, I wish I would have thought of it. Albuquerque has “Largest balloon convention in the world” according to Wikipedia so it’s fitting that a app like this should be developed in Albuquerque.
I want to hook up with these guys perhaps they can give me some help in developing my own apps. The article fails to mention what coffee shop the “The Cocoa Conspiracy” hang out at.
This app is so ridiculous and pointless it’s awesome. Actually I think something like this is a great way to promote yourself if your are an iPhone developer.The Ted is free on the iTunes Apps Store.
The Ted is a mystical man who knows all and is wise beyond his years. His widsom has been sought by Kings, Queens, mythical creatures, mob bosses, and small children. The Ted is now here to help you.

I’m glad Brent Simmons posted an updated on NetNewsWire for Mac and iPhone, my RSS reader of choice, on his blog at inessential.com. I was getting ready to post a pithy comment on the Newsgator forums about the lack of progress.
Brent says that NetNewsWire 3.2 for mac and NetNewsWire 2.0 for iPhone are in competition for release. Although he does not give a time frame for either. He describes NetNewsWire 3.2 for Mac as not a major upgrade except for the Google Reader synchronization options and NetNewsWire 2.0 for iPhone as a huge upgrade.
He goes into some detail about iPhone performance and NetNewsWire 4.0 for mac so if your interested I would read his post.
Ok I admit it, this weeks app is link bait but some of these near porn iPhone applications are getting ridiculous. Lingerie clad girls can be found for free using the Safari web browser. I predict with 3.0 software that real iPhone porn applications will become possible. Peekababe – Sexy Babes is $.99 on the iTunes App Store.
New updated submitted with more beautiful models.
* Note – if your app does not update with the new pictures, delete it and load it again and it will work.
Our rating: Please note this app is rated 12+, T because it contains mild mature or suggestive themes which may not be suitable for children under the age of 12. Please don’t buy this app if you take offense by sexual innuendos, sexy women in lingerie or in bikini.

aSmart HUD +SpeedCams will indicate where speed cameras are as you drive down the road. I especially liked the heads up display interface of this application. aSmart HUD +SpeedCams is $.99 on the iTunes App Store
aSmartHUD+ is simple and clear vehicle digital dashboard featured by HUD mode and FIXED SPEED CAMERAS DATABASE.
It visualizies your
- current speed
- average speed,
- time,
- heading,
- altitude,
- maximum reached speed (during the current trip or all your trips), maximum altitude and maximum distance to the starting point of your trip.Also it shows
- color coded distance to the nearest known fixed speed camera;
- it’s speed limit (if known);
- it’s position, relatively to your moving direction, what gives you an idea is the camera in front or behind you;On approach aSmartHUD+ will give you sound and visual warning. Warning also will be given in case your speed exceeds the speed limit set for that camera.
The database includes an information about 21500 cameras in Europe, 2500 in USA, in 1400 Canada, 1200 in Australia.
NOTE: It’s not guaranteed all speed cameras in your area are included into the database. However, we will release database updates right after the new information will become available.
Tapping the “HUD” icon mirrors all the text, so if you position the iPhone horizontally under your car’s windscreen you can see perfectly readable half-transparent reflection of the picture displayed. We love this mode! We found it much more convenient compared to traditional car dashboards (especially on the roads of Western Europe, which are full of speed cameras and where you need to watch your speedometer all the time). And last but not the least – it just looks cool. NOTE: this mode works pretty well at night time and twilight, but on direct sunlight the screen brightness can be insufficient.
- “aSmart HUD+” can keep track on 4 speed limits, giving a warning (sound and visual) each time you crossing it. Normally, it’s legal speed limits within cities, local roads and high-speed motorways. “Never exceed speed” is the speed you should not exceed under any conditions. For example, it can be a technical limit of your vehicle or the point where government can arrest your driving license.
- “Camera” icon on the “compass” circle indicates the position of the nearest camera;
- Speed history log chart is placed on the bottom of the screen.
- Landscape and Portrait screen layouts supported.
- Location Info (longitude and latitude, GPS measurement precision) and some more data is available on separate screen. You can adjust transparency of the “Location Info” screen to use both views at the same time.
- “Records” screen (left upper button on the Location Info screen), where you can see your maximum reached speed (during the current trip or all of your trips), maximum altitude and maximum distance from start.
- Tap the speed indicator to switch into speed fullscreen mode. Cameras info is available there as well;
- In Preferences, you can specify different measurement units (miles per hour, kilometers per hour, knots and meters per second), display color scheme, speed log chart refresh rate and chart style (bars or dots).IMPORTANT: for more screenshots and details visit the http://atoll-ordenadores.com website.
Limitations
- The program is running only on GPS-enabled iPhones 3G (second generation or higher) with iPhone OS 2.2 or higher. No iPod Touch, 1st-generation iPhones 2G or minor OS versions supported.
- The precision is affected by the satellite signal quality. On open-sky spaces it’s pretty good, but under other conditions can noticeably decrease. Also, after startup it requires some time to locate the necessary satellites, so during first minutes of running the measurement can be less effective. If unsure, use the program only for reference, don’t rely on it for 100%.
Thanks to everyone for your suggestions about additional functionality, there is a big chance they will be implemented in next version. Please forward your requests or bug reports to requests@atoll-ordenadores.com or share your opinions at http://www.atoll-ordenadores.com/forum/.

iHome Remote brings an 3rd party Indigo interface to your phone as a stand alone application. That’s interesting because there is a iPhone application available from developer of Indigo, Perceptive Automation, for free.
Why purchase iHome Remote? The official free app only works with 4.0, if you don’t want to pay the upgrade fee from 3.0 to 4.0, iHome Remote will work with 3.0. iHome Remote doesn’t have access to action groups but it does have access to Scenes which the official app does not. iHome Remote is $8.99 from the iTunes App Store.
Have you ever wondered if you left the lights on at home? Do you want to have everything just so before arriving home?
Used in conjunction with Indigo on your Mac, iHome will allow you to control your home lighting (Insteon and X10) using your iPhone or iPod Touch from anywhere.
** This app requires the Indigo Control Server from Perceptive Automation to be running on your Mac to work and is compatible with either version 3 or the soon to be released version 4 of Indigo.
FEATURES:
- View the status of your home lights and appliances
- Control lights and their dim level
- Turn appliances on and off
- Execute Scenes/Action Groups
- Access your home from anywhere
- Insteon and X10 controlBoth Insteon and X10 allow you to add automation to your home without any rewiring required.
Insteon is a new standard in home control, which features true bidirectional communication to ensure that your iPhone knows the status of what you are controlling.
With iHome and Indigo, you can have full remote control of your home!
Oregon Trail was always one of my favorite games, I even have an Oregon Trail II 25th Anniversary edition game for Macintosh from 1996 in a nice wooden box. I was very excited when an iPhone version was announced and purchased it as soon as it was available. It took me a few weeks to get through it the first time, yes I admit I played it a lot while sitting on the toilet
The iPhone version comes with a number of changes from the original. It has a quick-start feature where you can start playing immediately but I decided to try playing at level, easy medium or hard. FOr some reason, the games wouldn’t allow me to play the hardest level until I played one of the others.
I really enjoyed the cartoonish graphics and mini games throughout while playing. For example when the wagon breaks down there is a mini game where you hit nails. There is also panning for gold and fishing among other things, but I could never successfully catch anything while fishing.
The most annoying part of the game is the load screens. It seems every time the game changes scenes it has to load and load and load. I realize this is probably a work around for the limitations of the iPhone but it’s still very annoying.
I highly recommend the iPhone version of the The Oregon Trail if you like games that take a while to play, just make sure you get to a save point before hitting that home button to exit. The Oregon Trail is $5.99 On The iTunes App Store
Westward, Ho! Your favorite pioneering adventure game is back and takes you to an exciting, historical side-scrolling adventure entirely rethought to fit the Touch experience of your iPhone / iPod touch.
- All of the decision-making and problem-solving fun of the original game, plus additional parameters to take the Oregon Trail experience even further than you’ve played before.
- 8 skill-based mini-games, including 2 accelerometer-based challenges: hunting, fishing, river crossing, rafting, wagon repairing, telegraph, berry picking, and gold panning.
- Random events (disease, bandits, hitchhikers, etc.) faced by real pioneers increases the challenge.
- Side-missions add more excitement to your journey, affecting your westward trek.
- Prepare for your departure: Select the members of your party, choose your departure date and purchase supplies.
Highly recommended for fans of retro gaming, edutainment, educational games, and strategy.
