The Koensayr’s BTL Y-Wing Fighters often got their cockpit opening mechanism jammed in sub-zero operating temperatures. On Hoth It was not good, not good at all.

Amazing photos from Avanaut on Flickr of Star Wars scenes on Hoth using Legos and snow.

LEGO Brand Retail

4E8EE4BF-F6D1-4CBC-801E-D14BD74CE70D.jpgLego is having a black friday sale until 30 November which is nearly 10% off. I’m planning on purchasing the 10194 Emerald Nighticon train set. They Emerald Night works with the new power functions sets. These are nice since there are no longer train specific motors and controllers but it’s made all my previous train engines obsolete.

I emailed Lego and asked why they no longer carry the Emerald Night with power functions and the new flexible track as a kit. They responded with the following:

The product you inquired about have been discontinued from our current product line as a kit and we do not expect to offer it that way at this time.

Purchase any 4 Items of Power Functions accessory and Get 10% off, or Any 8 Items and Get 15% off, instead of releasing a new Power Functions Train Accessory Pack.

Here are the individual items that need to be purchased with the Emerald Night to make a complete kit.

Original Lego Space Theme Is 30 Years Old

March 2nd, 2009 Greg Smith No comments

I am what is call a AFOL, Adult Fan Of Lego. I got my start with legos in the 1970’s and 1980’s with the town and space themed sets. I couldn’t tell you which set I had first but I did have the much coveted LL-497 Galaxy Explorer.

Lego no longer makes the straight space them any more. They instead make the Mars Mission and Star Wars’s themes. There’s no mistake that the Star Wars sets are awesome and I very occasionally buy one for that reason.

lego space logo.pngMany of us AFOL’s are nostalgic for the original Space theme and March 2009 is the 30th anniversary of the introduction of the original space themed sets from Lego.

Neo Classic Space is celebrating by introducing a new model of day of march in the look of the original blue and grey space theme but using modern Lego building techniques.

Their first model, the LL-414 Deep Space Perimeter Patrol Ship, does not disappoint. Note the lack of studs anywhere on the model.

Inauguration of President Barack Obama

This Lego minifig scene by Digger Digger Dogstar on Flickr pretty much sums the arrival of Barack Obama (or at least how a lot of us think of it).

Many a geek blogger has been pointing out this new Lego set. It’s about time there’s a lego theme that has some Robotech-esqu feel to it (though a actually Robotech theme would totally rock).

This is the Areo Boostericon which is part of the new Exoforce theme.

Extreme air power!
When EXO-FORCE™ needs air support, they call in the incredible Aero Booster! Piloted by daredevil aerial ace Ha-Ya-To, this powered-up battle machine rules the skies. A detachable booster pack rockets it into action with 3 gigantic turbojet engines, movable wings, a firing missile and massive laser cannons to blast robot invaders!

  • Aero Booster has a detachable battle machine!
  • Laser cannons can also connect to the battle machine!
  • Aero Booster measures 11″ (28 cm) long!
  • Includes Ha-Ya-To minifigure!
  • Includes special code to unlock extra content at www.EXO-FORCE.com.

New Mexico Space Port Moves Forward

December 13th, 2005 Greg Smith Comments off

Good news for New Mexico’s space port. Virgin Atlantic has agreed to set up shop there being known as Virgin Galactic.

The first customer has been secured for the planned $225 million spaceport in southern New Mexico and state officials plan to announce Wednesday that construction of the facility will now move forward.

State officials, including Gov. Bill Richardson, also will announce tomorrow that London-based Virgin Galactic, a subsidiary of Britain’s Virgin Atlantic Airways Ltd., will be the facility’s first lease holder and plans to pay $1 million a year for the first five years of its 20-year lease.

I’m getting excited about this. I’ve always wanted to be a astronaut but I never had the “right stuff” (namely not being a Air Force pilot). This may provide me an opportunity to participate in the space race.

Lego & iPod Ads Mix

You know that the influence of something is big when it starts to be expressed in lego form.

What is PodBrix?

Tomi Responds:

PodBrix sells modified minifigs inspired by the popular ad campaign for portable music players. In the future we may branch out to other related minifigs.

How are the PodBrix minifigs created?

Tomi Responds:

I start with a Lego brand minifig and modify it by hand to create the desired appearance. Each one is slightly different.

I see only one minifig available for sale on the site. Are there others?

Tomi Responds:

At this time I am producing a limited edition run (300 units) of the “1K Brix” minifig. Lego minifigs are hard to come by in large quantities and I don’t want to commit to more at this time. When the “1K Brix” have sold out, I will design another different figure. Join the mailing list to be updated when we release a new product.

Christmases Past

xmas1979s2

This photo is part of a larger collection of family photos that I’m in the process of archiving on the computer. It appears to be Christmas around 1979 or 1980 1981. I know this because shown in the photo is the Lego Galaxy Explorer which was released in 1979. (This was one of my favorite Lego sets and it is of many others too)

Shown is the picture is my sister in the back and me in the front. Boy did I bring in the loot, look at all that stuff. I see Stompers in the picture, A slot car racing set, a storage box for Hot Wheels ( I still have some of those and I have the box) among other stuff I can’t make out.

By the way, I intend to fix this picture. I know it’s possible in Photoshop using masks and gradients. I just can’t seem to search for the right thing in google. I guess I’m going to have to buy a photoshop book.
