I thought the fuse in my Sony rear projection TV was pretty easy to fix but now I have learned that many similar models to mine are failing due to the optical block.
According the website “Sony LCD Rear Projection TV Problems“, every model of Sony TV made between 2003 and 2007 is a subject of warranty extension or class action lawsuit. Most of the issue come from visual anomalies due to the optical block over heating. It can cost up to $1500 to repair the optical block.
Besides having information about the problems on various models, examples and what Sony may or probably won’t do about it, the site does give extensive information about the optical block and it’s various parts.
I haven’t seen anything like this on my Sony TV yet. I have a KDF-E60A20 which is specifically list as not part of the warranty recall even though people have reported issues. It annoys me to see this sort of thing going on with Sony. I already paid too much for this TV, had to replace a poorly designed fuse and now have this to look forward to.
hey man I have a SXRD XBR 50″ DLP, and the optics went out 6 months after I bought it in 03. Had it replaced for free but it was $1000 just for the part. It started by having this yellow tint crawl down the side of my tv. Some notice a green blob in the center.
I purchased a Sony Grand Wega Model: KDF 60XS955 in Dec of 2004… Recently my optical block has failed… I contact Sony on 3 occassions and the only response from the representatives was a “tough luck” attitude…
I can not believe Sonys response to my optical blocking problem considering they knew about it for years. I feel like I just threw $4000 in the garbage
can..
My set has a light blue hue on the bottom of the screen, entire length of the screen and about 2″ thick..
All to know.. I have a 6 red blink error (thermal fuse fail) and I as a sony customer call the support.. besides ask me to unplugged the tv and turn it on again… the sony support just refers me to a local company… Sony, how about stand behind your product (not a cheap one cost me $3500) .. here is my response to sony survey “See, no one appreciate be deceived, I buy sony product because they are quality product… the TV give me a set of light signals that indicate a problem, I expected the customer server rep know what the error means (6 red blinks means), A 2 min search indicates is a thermal fuse defect. Why sony support could not inform that? also I few I into a schema, because my solution form sony is call a local company, which try to rip me for about $400, to change a fuse that cost $5… It is something very wrong on this. and sony is part or at least collaborates with this….”
