Newsweek magazines next cover is out with a picture Steve Jobs and what is suppose to be the next iPod. Last time something like this happened it was Time magazine and the photo of the next (or current, or I guess now the late) iMac.

If this is a mistake, a leak at the magazine then I suspect this is the last time Newsweek will take a picture of Steve Jobs. Perhaps MSNBC is trying to sabotage Apple because they are controlled by Microsoft.

I think however that this is all planned. There have been very little rumors on the release, other than it was coming. Those rumors placed the release tword the end of August (now suspected to the for the iPod Mini). Apple loves the hype of a new product. It helps them and they know it. I’m sure they have orchestrated this so called leak. The fact the the cover still remains available is a good sign of that. Also note that the picture doesn’t show much interesting or the article doesn’t give any specs. So really all this is doing is telling us that a new iPod will be released tomorrow.

[Update 2:] MacRumors suggest a color iPod is still in the works for the August/September time frame. And that is just a bizarre picture of Steve Jobs.

[Update 3:] Looks like there will be no 60GB version for a while. I’m trying to figure out if this is a compelling enough product to purchase. It bums me out that the 20GB version does not have a remote or dock but the 40GB does. It doesn’t have any of the video options I was hoping either. I won’t buy anything until I get the 20″ display paid for.
