Beagle 2 Is In My Back Yard

January 27th, 2004 Greg Smith
Nasa has had good luck and the ESA has had the worse with their attempts sending robots to The Red Planet. After looking at the photos from the JPL it occurs to me that they may be looking for it at the wrong place. With nothing but rock and dirt and no plant life the Mars rover must be in New Mexico!

They are now searching for the robot, “The mission team is now focussing on the possible reasons for failure, including the parachute and landing bags not working properly or the probe falling into a crater.A key to this investigation will be getting an image showing Beagle or its landing components on the surface.”. They have been able to see the Spirit rover on the surface of the planet. If they cannot see the Beagle then I hight suggest that they sent it to the wrong planet.

The ESA is going to ask NASA to use the Mars Odyssey orbiter to transmit a reset command to the Beagle 2 in hopes of bringing back to life. It’s a long shot.

Not all is rosy on the other side of the Atlantic. Although the Sprit was initially successful, it now has problems NASA needs to sort out. Lets hope the Opprotunity doesn’t have the same flash issues that Sprit has.

Ah, Greg, but if they’d sent it to New Mexico, could it have discovered intelligent life? ;-)
Sorry, couldn’t resist that fat pitch.

That’s actually a good question, one I’m hesitant to answer…
